Our Commitment to your privacy

At Illuminate, we respect your privacy and we're committed to protecting it.

From 12 March 2014, major changes to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) came into effect. Some of these changes require organisations to provide additional privacy-related information to individuals whose personal information they collect. These new Australian Privacy Principles (APP) as per the Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012) replace the existing National Privacy Principles (NPP as per the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000)

The Australian Privacy Principles (APP) set out in the Act, outline the ways in which your privacy is protected from a practical perspective. Illuminate's day-to-day recruitment procedures are designed to act in accordance with these principles.

This Privacy Policy explains the way the personal information you give us is collected, held, used, corrected, disclosed or transferred. (For the purposes of the Act, 'personal information' means any information or opinion about you, where your identity is apparent or could reasonably be ascertained)

As part of our commitment to providing accurate information to you, we have provided some straightforward questions and answers that are based on the Australian Privacy Principles. If you have any questions about our Privacy Policy and procedures, please contact us.

How will Illuminate go about collecting my personal information?

Illuminate will collect personal information where it is fair, lawful and non-intrusive to do so. Whenever we collect information from you, we will let you know the purpose of collection, the organisations to whom we may disclose the information. You may have access to the information we hold about you at any time (although an administration fee may be charged). In the unlikely event that we do not provide you with the information we have about you, you should contact the Privacy Commissioner for advice.

How will Illuminate use my personal information?

Illuminate will only use or disclose your information for the purpose it was collected. If we consider it reasonable to use your information for another purpose, we will contact you to seek your permission.

How will my personal information that Illuminate manages remain up-to-date?

Illuminate will take all reasonable steps to ensure any personal information you provide us to be stored, used or disclosed will be accurate, complete and up-to-date. In the course of contacting you to gain your consent to use your private information, we will ensure that your information is current. Of course, if your personal details change, we would appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible.

How will Illuminate keep my personal information secure?

Illuminate will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your information is protected from misuse or loss and from unauthorized access, modification or disclosure. While we strive to protect data transmitted to us via the internet, because such transactions cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure, we are unable to warrant the security of information sent to us this way. We do undertake, however, to make every effort to make the information sent to us via the internet secure on our own systems.

What access do I have access to the Illuminate Privacy Policy and how can I find out the way my personal information is managed?

Illuminate will provide you (upon request) with our Privacy Policy which explains how your information is managed and specifically how your personal information is handled by us. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.

Can I access and alter my personal information?

Illuminate will give you access to any information upon request although an administration fee may be charged. If the information held by us regarding you in incorrect, you may correct it at any time.

What are 'identifiers' and are mine protected?

An 'identifier' is a code assigned by a Commonwealth Government agency that identifies you, e.g. a Medicare or tax file number. Illuminate will not adopt, use or disclose an 'identifier' that has been assigned by a Commonwealth Government agency.

What if I want to be anonymous to Illuminate or its clients?

Illuminate will allow you to interact with us or our customers anonymously where it is lawful or practical to do so although it should be noted that this may limit our ability to assist you in finding employment.

What about 'sensitive' information? Is it treated the same way as 'personal' information?

Sensitive information might involve race, ethnicity, political opinion, membership of political association, religious beliefs or affiliations, philosophical beliefs, membership of a professional or trade association, membership of a trade union, sexual preferences or practices, criminal record or health information. Illuminate will not collect, use or disclose sensitive information without your consent.

What should I do if I'm not satisfied with the way Illuminate has managed my personal information?

Illuminate is committed to providing you with a fair and equitable system for handling your complaints. In the event you have a query or complaint about the way your information has been managed, please contact our Privacy Officer. We will endeavour to assist you; however, if you wish to take matters further you may contact the Office of the Federal Privacy Commissioner for further advice at www.oaic.gov.au
